Qing Zhu Ph.D. Student

Qing

Hello, my name is Qing Zhu. I was born in a small city (Anshun) in Guizhou province in China. Anshun is a peaceful and pretty city and famous for the third biggest water fall (Huangguoshu water fall) in the world. I got my bachelor and master degrees in physical geography in Nanjing University, Jiangsu, China, with focus on farmland quality management. I am currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at the Penn State University. I started in August 2005 and hopefully will graduate some time this year (2009). My career goal is to be a scientist working in the university or research institute in China.

My current research is “Hydropedological processes and their implications in precision agriculture”. It is a cutting edge study of hydrology, pedology, soil fertility, and precision agriculture. My thesis will be consist of five parts: a) spatial interpolation method selection, b) subsurface flow paths simulating and validating, c) hierarchic controls of soil moisture, d) functional soil mapping for crop and soil moisture management, and e) nitrogen availability variation as responses of hydropedological processes.
